The Mesopotamian Marshes, also known as the Iraqi Marshes, are a wetland area located in Southern Iraq and in southwestern Iran.The marshes are primarily located on the floodplains of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers bound by the cities of Basra, Nasiriyah, Amarah and a portion of southwestern Iran.
You get around the marshlands by boat, the boats used in the marshes are called mashoof (mashuf).Traditionally, mashuf is used for fishing, as a taxi or transporting goods and people by the Marsh Arabs of Iraq. This long and narrow canoe is perfect for getting around the grasses and reeds of the marshes.
